Back On Track
The programme supports the educational and social development of primary aged children across N Ireland using early intervention initiatives in Literacy and Numeracy.
It aims to provide support to children who have an additional learning need but do not qualify for statutory support. For example, some children may not be achieving a literacy level comparable to their reading age whilst others may struggle with language formation, phonics, time, sentence construction etc.
The programme runs throughout the school year and is facilitated by a team of retired teachers and professionals who have an interest, experience and expertise in the field of education. Each volunteer goes into a primary school one morning per week and works with children on a 1:1 or small group basis using a tailored learning package which is agreed with the school, volunteer and myself. We provide specific educational resources to support the learning.
Our volunteers are an extremely valuable resource for schools and have made a huge difference to the education and well-being of the children identified for the programme. The volunteers will receive ongoing training; Safeguarding, Literacy & Numeracy strategies, Dyslexia, Reading Recovery strategies, ACEs(Adverse Childhood Experiences), Resilience Training and Attachment Disorder.
